On 1st March 2024, SDS Govt College Jadla hosted its inaugural Athletic Meet, a significant event in the college’s history. Principal Simmi Johal graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, adding prestige to the event. The entire event was meticulously organized by the Physical Education Department, led by Prof. Priya Bawa, with invaluable assistance from Nehru Yuva Kendra SBS Nagar, including Madam Vandhna Lao and Mr. Govind.
The athletic meet featured a variety of track and field events, showcasing the athletic prowess of the students. In the 100m Boys’ Race, Prabjyot Singh (B.A II Year) secured the first position, followed by Vikram Kumar (B.Com II Year) in second place and Harshdeep Singh (B.A II Year) in third. Similarly, in the 200m Boys’ Race, Vikram Kumar clinched the top spot, with Prabjyot Singh in second and Manpreet Singh (B.Com I Year) in third. In the 400m Boys’ Race, Vikram Kumar emerged victorious once again, followed by Manpreet Singh and Prabjyot Singh.
In the field events, Sonu Singh (B.A I Year) excelled in Shot Put, securing the first position, followed by Manpreet Singh and Karan (B.A II Year). Recreational games saw Sushmita Topno winning the Lemon Spoon Race among girls, while Vikram Kumar and Gurpreet Kaur and Gurleen Kaur emerged victorious in the boys’ Lemon Spoon Race and the Three-Legged Race, respectively.
The girls’ events were equally competitive, with Rajvir Kaur (B.Com I Year) dominating the 100m, 200m, and 400m races, securing the first position in each. In Shot Put, Rajvir Kaur led the pack, followed by Gurpreet Kaur (B.A I Year) and Namrata (B.A I Year).
The event concluded with a spirited Tug of War contest between students and staff members. Special refreshments were provided by the Physical Education Department for all participants, adding to the overall enjoyment of the event. Principal Simmi Johal delivered an inspiring speech, commending the efforts of the participants and organizers alike.
The first Athletic Meet at SDS Govt College Jadla was a resounding success, showcasing the talent and sportsmanship of the students. Congratulations to all the participants for their outstanding performances, and special recognition to Vikram Kumar and Rajvir Kaur for being named the Best Athletes among boys and girls, respectively.
